The Northern Feminist Institute for Research and Evaluation - Northern FIRE - presents its first wine-and-cheese seminar as Theresa Healy and Wendy Young present ‘They said it couldn’t be done. We did it anyway,’ a reflection on patriarchy, marriage and the role of the state in the bedrooms of the nation.

The event takes place in the UNBC Senate Chambers in Prince George on Tuesday, Jan 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Healy and Young were two of the BC8 who were included in the same-sex marriage court case in the Supreme Court of Canada that resulted in a victory. The couple will reflect on the journey down the aisle and the evolution of meanings of the historic win. In many ways this victory is emblematic of many other similar victors in struggles for equity and justice conducted by individuals who are determined enough to just do it despite being told otherwise.
