Less than 48 hours after arriving at the Canadian Open Judo championships, Lisa Russell went and captured a silver medal.
Russell, who trains out of the Prince George Judo Club, won the medal Friday in the under-18 female under-52-kilogram division at the national championships in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.
Representing B.C., Russell, won her first two matches against Jessica Harrison and Anais Boyer from Quebec to advance to the championship final where she lost to Florence Grenapin of Ontario.
Grace Northrop of the Hart Judo Club finished third in the same division. She lost her first match to Audrey Dion, but fought back to win her next two matches against Samantha Paugh of P.E.I. and Boyer.
Northrop and Russell also fought in the U21 female under-52kg division on Saturday. Russell went 0-3 in the round-robin and did not advance to the playoff round. Northrop won her first two round-robin matches to advance to a semifinal bout against Catherine Bonsant of Quebec but lost that match to wind up third.
Lavanna Laass of the Hart Judo Club competed in two different age categories.
In the U21 female, under-63 division, she went 2-1 in the round-robin before losing to Emily Burt of Quebec in the semifinal.
In the senior female under-63kg class, she posted a 1-1 round-robin record, but lost to Jacquina Simao of Quebec in the semifinal.
There were 12 athletes from all three Prince George judo clubs competing at the national championships.
In the U16 male under-66kg class, Nicolas Richards of the North Capital Judo Club posted a 2-2 record, while Levi Price of the Prince George Judo Club went 1-1.
In the U16 male -55kg division, Ryan Russell of PGJC was 1-2, while Kurtis Cormack was 0-2 in the U16 male -60kg class. Branden Edwards was also 1-2 in the same division.
