Two B.C. residents were killed early Friday morning in a single-vehicle rollover near Valemount, North District RCMP said.

Valemount RCMP, who received a call at 12:40 a.m., arrived on the scene on Highway 16 about 58 km east of Tete Jaune junction to find a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman dead.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but excessive speed is believed to be a major factor, RCMP said.

The highway was closed for some time, was opened to single lane alternating traffic at 8:30 a.m., and as of noon Friday was reopened.

The names of the deceased are not being released as notification of next of kin has not been completed at this time.
