Riverstone slapped with suspension

The Riverstone Bar and Grill is serving a 12-day closure for violating a provincial liquor regulation just a day before it was to start a previous suspension.

The Riverstone Bar and Grill is serving a 12-day closure for violating a provincial liquor regulation just a day before it was to start a previous suspension.

Liquor Control and Licensing Branch spokeswoman Cindy Stephenson confirmed Friday that the current suspension began Thursday and will last until Sept. 19 and was issued for permitting an intoxicated person to remain in their establishment.

The Riverstone was also fined $2,000 for allowing liquor to be removed from the establishment.

Both infractions occurred on May 26, the day before it was to serve a four-day penalty for permitting an intoxicated person to remain in their establishment on Dec. 11.

"A 12-day suspension falls within the range set out in the regulations for a second contravention of this type within the previous 12 months," Stephenson said.

The licensee signed a waiver agreeing to the penalty and the matter did not go to a hearing, Stephenson added.
