The floods have officially passed for now.

With river levels continuing to recede, the regional district's Emergency Operations Centre was deactivated Tuesday.

Residents in the Paddlewheel Park area of South Fort George were told they could return to their homes, but they remain under continued evacuation alert in case the water levels rise again. The City of Prince George rescinded the state of local emergency at 1 p.m. Tuesday and closed its reception centre at City Hall.

"The BC River Forecast Centre is recommending continued vigilance given the snow pack remaining at upper elevations," said City of Prince George spokeswoman Chris Bone. "Consequently, the temporary diking system [gabion baskets] on Farrell Street will remain in place for two weeks while the Emergency Operations Centre continues to monitor river levels."
