Police received multiple reports Tuesday morning of a person in the Fraser River just north of Fort George Park but called off their search at 3 p.m. without locating anyone.

"Sixteen kilometres of the Fraser River had been searched by water. Air search by plane and helicopter went significantly further," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.

He said the police (including the RCMP's aircraft) were joined in the search efforts by Prince George Fire / Rescue, BC Ambulance Service, Prince George Search and Rescue, BC Parks, the Conservation Officer services and the Prince George Jet Boat Club.

The investigation is still open, said Douglass. It is believed that the person in the water was male.
