Richmond non-profit donates baby formula, essentials to those in need

Rose's Angels was created in memory of co-founder's philanthropic grandmothers.

For the 11th year running, a non-profit in Richmond has donated essential items, including baby formula, personal care items, non-perishable food, books as well as arts and craft supplies to people in need.

Rose’s Angels starts its annual organizing in January and starts collecting donations in February. The Richmond Jewish Day School also hosted a hygiene drive in February.

In March, volunteers distribute the donations and grocery store gift cards to 15 agencies such as Richmond Family Place, Mama’s for Mama’s, Turning Point Recovery, Jewish Food Bank, Richmond Food Bank, Tikvah Housing and Pathways Clubhouse.

Rose’s Angels co-founder Courtney Cohen said baby formula was among the top priority items this year, and they were able to donate some to both Mama’s for Mama’s and the food bank.

“Being a new mom myself, I can’t imagine the feeling of not having the accessibility or means to get my baby formula,” Cohen explained.

An email Cohen received after delivering baby formula was especially heart-warming for her. It read: “I can't tell you what it means to us and so many families! We had another mom come in from the hospital yesterday. They use one of the types of formula you donated, and she felt like her prayers had been answered she said!”

Rose's Angels was created in 2012, by Cohen and Lynne Fader in memory of Cohen’s grandmothers Rose Lewin and Babs Cohen who were both very philanthropic and instilled in her the importance of giving back within my community.

“The success of Rose’s Angels would not be possible without the support of our incredible donors, volunteers and community members,” Cohen said. “Their dedication yearly to making sure that our event is able to have more impact for the community members we donate to, means the world.”

Rose's Angels is under the umbrella of the Kehila Society of Richmond.
