Resurfacing work will get underway this summer on Upper Fraser Road and Shelley Road thanks to a $2.8-million contract from the B.C. government.

Both roads serve local communities and industry and are accessed off of Highway 16 East. Shelley Road will receive 2.5 kilometres of asphalt overlay and the remainder of the road will be surfaced with graded aggregate sealcoat.

Upper Fraser Road will be receiving new asphalt overlay starting at the Willow River Bridge and continuing east for 17.2 kilometres, adding to paving projects previously completed from Highway 16 to Willow River and near Newlands.

"Highways in our region are busy with industrial and residential traffic," Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond said. "Continued investment like this is essential to ensure that our road networks allow for safe and efficient use."

Work is expected to be completed in August.
