Restaurant granted extension of hours

Despite opposition from a couple of neighbours, city council approved Original Joe's request to extend its hours of liquor service.

The Domano Boulevard restaurant and bar wants to have its alcohol service available until 1 a.m. to coincide with its hours of food service.

But a letter submitted to Coun. Lyn Hall from neighbour Brian Brownridge expressed concerns over the already problematic noise and traffic levels generated by the restaurant.

"We certainly don't need to add to that problem by extending the operating hours on the weekend for the bar," Brownridge wrote.

Jennifer Sauve, another neighbour, also addressed council Monday night to outline problems with noise generated by customers slamming doors and yelling.

Sauve and Brownridge both brought up issues with garbage containers not having the required screening and debris left by builders in an adjoining lot.

"To me, it demonstrates the inability to solve less-complex problems," Sauve said.

But Original Joe's general manager Rick Devore said the screening for garbage containers was completed a month ago and that their property is free of construction debris.

"As far as the lot beside the restaurant, I don't know whose that is," Devore said. He also explained the extended hours would only be in effect for Friday and Saturday nights and that the restaurant's patio will continue to close at midnight.
