Tamara Emma Davis, 23, has been charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample following a dramatic crash on Sunday.

The single-vehicle rollover happened just after noon on Chief Lake Road. The white pickup caught on fire as it lay in the ditch.

In the aftermath of the incident The Citizen reported the efforts of passersby to get Davis out of the wrecked pickup she was driving. "Their brave act may have saved her life," Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass said on Tuesday.

However, the investigation didn't end there.

"Witnesses advised that [Davis] stated that there were five persons in the vehicle, although she was the only one located," Douglass explained. "RCMP Police Service Dog Azar and his handler were called to the scene to search the area for more passengers. No one else was located and it was later confirmed that the driver was the lone occupant."

Davis, a resident of Halfway River near Fort St. John, was taken to hospital for treatment of the injuries she sustained in the crash. Due to the allegations of impairment, she was then held in custody until a court appearance on Tuesday where provincial Crown approved the charges.
