Rescue workers overnight with stricken snowmobiler

Prince George Search and Rescue members were called out Sunday night to help with the rescue of an injured snowmobiler.

Prince George Search and Rescue members were called out Sunday night to help with the rescue of an injured snowmobiler.

PGSAR search manager Dale Bull said the rider, a woman in her 20s, suffered possible back injuries when she was thrown from her sled and then hit by her own machine while on the Seebach Forest Service Road northeast of Prince George.

Led to her location by a member of her party, a PGSAR snowmobile team located the woman at 3:30 a.m., stabilized her and "did their best to make her comfortable until morning," Bull said.

At first light, a helicopter was dispatched from Prince George carrying two B.C. Ambulance paramedics and two PGSAR first aid attendants, and by 7 a.m. she was being transported to the University Hospital of Northern B.C.

Bull said all the members of the woman's party were well prepared to handle the situation.

"The original party of five had a trip plan left with friends. When the party was an hour past due, a search was started," Bull said. "The many precautions that were taken led to a faster and safer resolution of the incident."

In all, there were nine responders from PGSAR and two people in a support role.
