The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and City of Prince George conducted a test of the Public Alerting System on Monday morning at roughly 9 a.m.
Regional district residents who subscribed to the system received the test message by text and email, but the voice call message was distorted, according to information released by the regional district.
“This was an isolated incident, and the Regional District is working closely with its service provider to identify and rectify the problem,” a regional district statement issued on Monday said. “There were no issues with any of the messages sent by the City of Prince George during today’s test.”
The Public Alerting System is used in emergencies like severe weather, floods or wildfires, and people who register with the system will receive texts, automated voice calls and/or emails with important public safety information and any evacuation alerts or orders.
The system is free for anyone who lives or works in the City of Prince George or Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. Those who sign up online can indicate which zones are relevant to them.
