To protect visitors and staff from the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is closing its main office in downtown Prince George to the public.

As of Monday, the office at 155 George St., will be locked to walk-in traffic and visitors must first make an appointment to access services the district provides.

Call 250-960-4400 or toll-free at 1-800-667-1959 or email appointment requests to [email protected].

“We recognize this is a significant shift in our approach to dealing with the public,” said RDFFG administrator Jim Martin. “But we are in extraordinary times and it’s imperative to put the health and safety of our visitors and staff first.

"Like all new measures being introduced in the province over the last week, we expect the public to understand why this change is necessary and that they not show up at our office unless they have made an appointment ahead of time.”

Landfills and transfer stations operated by the regional district will remain open.

The Foothills landfill is open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., on Saturday from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

"We ask the users of these facilities to ensure they are vigilant in social distancing practices when interacting with landfill and transfer station staff," said Martin. "These are important services and we need our people healthy to maintain these critical operations."
