The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George celebrated its 50th anniversary Wednesday.
Community members gathered to pay tribute to the many people who have helped make a difference since the regional district officially came to be in 1967.
Regional district Chair Art Kaehn says that the district is proud of the role it has played in developing this region over the past half century.
"So much of the success in growing our region can be attributed to the people, whether they be current of former staff, directors or those who volunteer to make our region better through service in our fire departments, community associations and communities. To these people, we say thanks," said Kaehn.
"We look forward to the next 50 years as we work together with our partners to help build strong communities throughout the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George," said Kaehn.
The regional district has a population of about 95,000 in Prince George, Mackenzie, Valemount, McBride and the rural areas outside of those communities. At 51,000 square kilometres in size, the regional district is larger than Denmark or Switzerland.
In recognition of the last 50 years, the regional district has produced a list of 50 significant events, places and projects in celebration of the region.
