Referendum question raises slight concern

A key organizer of the Prince George anti-HST campaign is generally happy with the draft question crafted by B.C.'s chief electoral officer for next September's referendum on the issue but is scratching his head over one aspect.

A key organizer of the Prince George anti-HST campaign is generally happy with the draft question crafted by B.C.'s chief electoral officer for next September's referendum on the issue but is scratching his head over one aspect.

On Wednesday, Craig James issued the following proposed question: "Are you in favour of extinguishing the HST and reinstating the provincial sales tax in conjunction with the goods and services tax? Yes or No."

Eric Allen, who spearheaded the Fight the HST campaign this summer, said the question sounds "pretty clear cut" although he wasn't entirely sure what the references to reinstating the PST in conjunction with the GST might mean.
