Being an Operation Red Nose volunteer is often a thankless task, but on Sunday morning, a lack of appreciation went to extremes.
At approximately 3:15 a.m., an Operation Red Nose driver was punched in the face by a 22-year-old man from Fort St. James.
The assault occurred while the volunteer was driving his drunk assailant's vehicle to a residence. The driver was not injured and the male was arrested and lodged in cells.
The mission of Operation Red Nose, according to its website, is "to encourage responsible behavior (in a non-judgmental manner) with regard to impaired driving by enabling communities to provide a free and confidential chauffeur service to their members, the financial benefits of which are redistributed to local organizations dedicated to youth."
Anyone wishing to use the service over the holidays is asked to call 250-964-7433.
