Recycling the PG Hotel

A local group is hoping to recycle items from the Prince George Hotel before the city demolishes it later this year.

Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) executive director Terri McClymont wrote to council on March 1, requesting the society be allowed to harvest any small reusable items.

In her letter, McClymont said REAPS volunteers would inventory items like doors, hinges, linen and barrels which could be used by other organizations in town.

"The inventoried items would exclude major salvage items that would denote a high dollar value," McClymont wrote. "Besides presenting to various businesses and community groups we assist residents and businesses in finding new and creative ways to reuse items that would usually end up in the landfill."

Council will make a decision on the issue at Monday's city council meeting.
