A record total of 230 graduates are expected to accept their parchment at the College of New Caledonia's (CNC) convocation ceremony Saturday.

As well, CNC's first class of natural resources and environmental technology diploma students are graduating and students in the college's second medical laboratory technology class have just returned from their one-year practicum placement to participate in the ceremony.

Two medals for scholastic achievement will be presented.

Business administration student Wamona Yliruusi will receive the Governor General's Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal, awarded to the CNC student who achieves the highest overall average upon graduation from a diploma-level, post-secondary program. Yliruusi earned a 4.28 grade point average.

Early Childhood Education student Jessica Marshall will receive the Lieutenant Governor's Silver Medal, awarded to a CNC student in a vocational or career program less than two years long, who has achieved top marks and has contributed to the life of the college or the community.

Marshall's grade-point average was 4.33.

Last year there were 216 graduates in Prince George, which was also a record.

The ceremony starts at 2 p.m. at CN Centre.
