Prince George enjoyed record-setting heat over the last two days and could experience more of the same this weekend.
A record for the Sept. 12 of 30 C was reached on Thursday, edging out the old one of 28 set in 2009. And as of 3 p.m. on Friday, it was 27 C, breaking the old record of 25.8 for Sept. 13, also from 2009.
The temperature will remain in record-setting territory over the weekend with Environment Canada predicting highs of 28 on both days. The daily record for Sept. 14 is 27.8, set in 1958 and for Sept. 15, it is 28.1, set in 1981.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Jones said the warmth is due to "one of the best" ridges of summertime high pressure but warned it could be the last good stretch of sunshine.
The daily high is expected to drop back to 17 C by mid week, which is the normal for this time of year.
"The pattern really starts to break down so this might be the last gasp of summer," Jones said.
The average temperature for the last 90 days has been 1.9 C above the average.
