RCMP in Fort St. John are looking for local teens who may have been the victims of "sextortion."
In a release Tuesday morning, the detachment says several teens may have been victims after sharing intimate photos of themselves to a person posing as a friend online.
Police believe there are more victims that have yet to come forward, and are asking parents to speak with their children to find out if they've shared intimate photos online. If they have, or if they have been asked to do so, parents are asked to call police.
Efforts to identify the person responsible are continuing, police say.
"We can never be too internet safe," Sgt. Dave Tyreman said in a statement.
"As parents, we need to always know what our children are doing on all of their electronic devices. We would encourage all parents to speak to their children about these incidents to help educate them about the dangers of sharing photos online."
Police learned local teens may have been victimized through the BC Integrated Child Exploitation Unit.
