During the last Citizen poll we asked "should RCMP officers working at major public events in Prince George like Canada Day be armed with carbine rifles?"
Although 37 per cent of readers, with 420 votes, said "no, there is no evidence that kind of firepower is needed at local public events," the majority of voters said yes for two different reasons.
"Yes, police officers need the best tools available to do their jobs during a crisis," got 31 per cent, with 349 votes and "yes, this is the new normal in a world where these kind of events are targtets," got 25 per cent and 279 votes.
Coming in with seven per cent and 73 votes is "no, residents are frightened away from public events when they see officers heavily armed."
There was a total of 1,121 votes. Remember this is not a scientific poll.
Next Citizen poll question asks "what should the City of Prince George do about the wages and benefits of the management team at city hall?"
