Prince George RCMP kicked off the holiday season by stepping up enforcement against driving while impaired.
On Saturday, which marked National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, members of the detachment's traffic services section conducted 2,500 vehicle checks.
The effort yielded one 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions with a 30-day vehicle impoundment and four provincial roadside suspensions for alcohol, as well as four driving without a licence, four driving contrary to restrictions, three without insurance and two driving while prohibited.
Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions, police said.
"If you witness an impaired person get behind the wheel of a vehicle or witness a possibly impaired driver on our roads, please immediately call 911. Your efforts to contact police may save a life," police said.
