RCMP investigate float-by shooting

Police need some help from the public after an apparent float-by shooting Monday at about 9:15 p.m.

Police need some help from the public after an apparent float-by shooting Monday at about 9:15 p.m.

"We got a call saying there was a jet boat on the river and it was believed the people in the boat were shooting into the bushes on the shoreline," said police spokeswoman Const. Julie Champagne.

The boaters were noticed in the area of North Nechako Road and Riverside Road. Discharging a firearm from a boat into adjacent bushes is not only dangerous, it is also illegal to shoot a gun at all inside city limits.

The boat was believed to be headed downstream towards the confluence of the Fraser River.

A mysterious death on Holmes Road is still being closely examined by police. They were called to a rural residence there on Thursday where they discovered a deceased female and critically injured male.

"The autopsy has been done. That was completed on Monday," said Prince George RCMP spokeswoman Const. Julie Champagne. "There are still some aspects of the file that need to be addressed before we can update the public as to what we have learned through the autopsy and other evidence in this case."

The injured male was sent to hospital in Vancouver due to the complexity of his injuries. Champagne was unable to disclose his present condition.

Police continue to pursue charges against a 30-year-old male following a stabbing this weekend inside a Queensway apartment, but they have not been officially laid by Crown.

The victim, a 50-year-old man, is still suffering from the chest wound, said Prince George RCMP spokeswoman Const. Julie Champagne.

"The victim is in stable condition at the hospital, and the suspect is still in custody. The court has not laid any charges, but he is back in court [today]," she said.

Police arrived to find the victim in medical distress at an apartment in the 1500 block of Queensway just after 10 p.m. Saturday night. Within two hours, the suspect was in custody.

"They knew each other," said RCMP Staff Sgt. Bill Hudyma. "They were in the same apartment when it happened. There was an argument between them."
