A year-long investigation led to a large-scale drug bust early this past Tuesday morning. Thirty-three police officers executed a total of eight search warrants. Eighteen people were arrested in the investigation, seven of whom could see drug and firearms-related charges.
Police do not yet have details around the amount of drugs or guns seized. According to a release, the six residences and two storage lockers that the police raided contained a significant amount of cocaine, marijuana, firearms, and money.
Five of the residences were in Fort St. John, while one was in Taylor. All six of those were executed simultaneously, and the 18 arrests were made.
"From information garnered from entering the six residences, then we did the two storage lockers afterwards," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie told Alaska Highway News.
Of the 33 officers involved, seven were brought in from Dawson Creek to aid the Fort St. John personnel. There was no resistance.
The investigation was done over the course of a year, and took two weeks to plan and gather the resources they needed for the execution of the search warrants.
"Any time we can get this quantity of illegal drugs and dangerous firearms off the streets, it makes Fort St. John safer," Shelkie in the release.
