RCMP deploy "additional measures" in wake of purported bomber letter

The RCMP will be strengthening its presence in the Dawson Creek area in the wake of the appearance of another letter suspected to be from the Tomslake pipeline bomber.

The RCMP will be strengthening its presence in the Dawson Creek area in the wake of the appearance of another letter suspected to be from the Tomslake pipeline bomber.

The letter, which was postmarked Whitecourt, Alberta and received from the Citizen's sister paper the Dawson Creek Daily News Wednesday, warned, "We are growing in strength and now ready for actions at all your installations." It is the fourth letter sent to northeastern B.C. media outlets - one of which was determined by police to be a hoax - that have been linked to a series of six bombings between October 2008 and July 2009 targeting the wellheads and pipelines of the energy firm EnCana.

"When you have a letter that threatens some sort of action, whether it's a hoax or not, from the onset we have to take that quite seriously," said Sgt. Rob Vermeulen, a spokesperson for the RCMP's E division. "There are some additional measures being taken to insure the safety of the community up there. For obvious reasons, we can't go into what they are."
