Raise a Reader grants to support local literacy

To support local literacy programs, the Prince George Public Library is accepting applications from charitable organizations that promote children and family literacy.

The grant applications are available online at www.pgpl.ca and must be submitted by email to [email protected] by Dec. 14.

Each organization can apply for as much as $2,500 in funding.

Last year's fundraising efforts were granted to 22 organizations including Quinson elementary to create a community library and the Prince George Native Friendship Centre for the distribution of Aboriginal children's books.

This year's September campaign organized in partnership with the library, Literacy Prince George and the Prince George Citizen raised more than $17,000, with an additional $11,850 in matching funds.

Since 2007, more than $325,000 has been distributed locally as Raise a Reader grants.
