Continuing rain is finally letting 800 firefighters and support personnel get a handle on the two largest fires in the province, west and southwest of Prince George.

Continuing rain is finally letting 800 firefighters and support personnel get a handle on the two largest fires in the province, west and southwest of Prince George.

The 40,000-hectare Binta Lake fire, 150 kilometres west of Prince George, is now considered 45 per cent contained. The largest of the Pelican Lake fires, about 70 kilometres southwest of Prince George, is now 30 per cent contained. That largest fire in the Pelican Lake area is more than 43,000 hectares.

Neither fire grew Wednesday.
