Quesnel names new city manager

John Stecyk is the new city manager for the City of Quesnel. He was named to the position on Wednesday, and will start in the position Jan. 4.

John Stecyk is the new city manager for the City of Quesnel. He was named to the position on Wednesday, and will start in the position Jan. 4.

According to Quesnel city officials, Stecyk's background in public administration includes such roles as: deputy minister of infrastructure for the Yukon Government; assistant deputy minister, Government Services for the Government of Saskatchewan; superintendent for Regina Public Schools; and, most recently, as a regional engineer and construction project leader for the Government of Canada.

"Council was impressed by John's managerial skills, his past experience and his extensive intergovernmental abilities and knowledge," said Quesnel mayor Mary Sjostrom. "We're looking forward to his arrival in January as he begins to work with council and staff as we set our future for the City of Quesnel."

"My family and I very much look forward to coming to Quesnel, meeting people and becoming part of this community," added Stecyk, who is relocating from Chilliwack.

Jack Marsh, the interim city manager, will return to his former role as director of public works.
