A teenaged girl is dead due to a series of driving mistakes on Quesnel-Hixon Road, a route just west of Highway 97 and north of downtown Quesnel.

Alcohol, lack of seatbelt and driving beyond her experience level are all believed by police to be factors in the gruesome single-vehicle crash that put three others in peril as well.

The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

One male, 21, and three females, one 17 and two 18, were in an F350 Ford pickup driven southbound by one of the 18-year-old girls.

"As it was travelling through several sharp corners, the driver lost control of the vehicle which then spun and left the roadway on the opposite side of the road where it overturned," said Quesnel RCMP Staff Sgt. Gary Clark-Marlow. "The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. She suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene."

The passengers received minor injuries and were treated then soon released at GR Baker Hospital.

All four were residents of Prince George. No names have been released.
