A Quesnel bank robber got more than he bargained for Friday afternoon when he was arrested by RCMP officers less than a block away from the scene of the robbery.
About 5 p.m. on Friday, a man entered the Scotiabank branch on Reid Street in Quesnel, demanded money and quickly fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police were alerted immediately and members of the Quesnel RCMP detachment, who were in close proximity, saw a man who matched the suspect's description and made an arrest.
A 41-year-old man was charged with robbery and was due to appear before a judge on Saturday.
n RCMP have arrested a young teenaged male in connection with a series of complaints of sexual assault and inappropriate touching of women in public places in Williams Lake. The first incident was reported April 9 and more female victims were confronted and attacked over the next two days.
RCMP responded by assigning several investigators to the case and issued media alerts to heighten public awareness. Since April 11, RCMP have received no other reports of similar assaults.
"This investigation struck to the core of public safety and was made a priority by our investigational team," said Williams Lake RCMP Staff Sergeant Ken Brissard.
The 14-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in court to face charges of sexual assault. He has been released from custody to the care of his guardian on strict conditions and is being closely monitored by police and his pail supervisor.
