Autumn beer will flow this week from Pacific Western Brewery, the first batch from its history-making mini-brewery.
"Grand Canyon Pumpkin Bock is the brewery's inaugural brew from our 10-hectolitre pilot brewing system," said PWB's brewmaster Henryk Orlik. "As the only one in North America that has been installed within an existing regional craft brewery, it's something we're excited to showcase and with this beer we're off to an excellent start."
The limited edition batch of bock is flavoured in honour of the harvest season using fresh B.C. pumpkins for authentic taste. Consumers will see a marketing feature along with it: a connection to the Grand Canyon of the United States. This continues PWB's series of beer-related references to world wonders in their small-batch branding. The first was last year's Sugarloaf Chocolate Imperial Stout that came with graphics and story about Brazil's epic Christ statue and coffee plantations.
Both are part of PWB's 'Seven Wonders of the Beer World' series under their Scandal label.
Grand Canyon Pumpkin Bock is a stronger beverage than the average beer, at 7 per cent alcohol content. Orlik called it "bold and earthy" in flavour, as a subtle homage to the mythical legend of an Egyptian culture once inhabiting the dusty depths of the Grand Canyon's caves, half a world from their ancient Nile River empire. Orlik also said he added a touch of blue agave for sweetness and still more reference to desert landscapes.
