The mail boxes being constantly tipped over in one College Heights neighbourhood have been set back up on their feet - permanently.

Canada Post got a stack of complaints about how often the community boxes were being knocked ove near the corner of O'Grady Road and Marleau Road. The national postal service promised, just before Christmas, that the problem would be fixed.

"They did it. Can you believe it?" said John Joynson, a frustrated neighbour. He had seen the boxes tipped over about 100 times over the past nine-and-a-half years. Many times it was passersby who did the lifting to pick them up again after vandals did the dump-over. Other times Canada Post was contacted and officials came to set it back up.

"Tell 'em I said it was a beautiful job they did, and it's really appreciated around here, even if it was nine-and-a-half years," Joynson said. He went for mail on Thursday and the boxes were the same old tippy ones, but on Monday morning when he went to get his mail the boxes were cemented into place.

Anick Losier, national spokeswoman for Canada Post, said the company was pleased to help.

"Indeed, our work crew secured the community mailboxes over the weekend to prevent further tipping. We thank the community for their continued vigilance and ask that they alert us if any other issue occur," she told The Citizen.
