Purse thief gets probation

A local man who was arrested in downtown Prince George in August after police saw him steal a purse from a delivery vehicle has been sentenced to 18 months probation.

A local man who was arrested in downtown Prince George in August after police saw him steal a purse from a delivery vehicle has been sentenced to 18 months probation.

Allan Douglas Nigh, who is known to police, was apprehended by the Prince George RCMP's downtown enforcement unit when he was seen trying doors on vehicles parked at Parkwood Mall.

He was followed to the downtown area where he was seen stealing the purse from the vehicle near Fifth and Quebec when the driver stepped out on an errand.

Nigh, who was also sentenced to one day in jail, was convicted on one count of theft $5,000 or under related to the incident. The sentence was also applied to counts of theft $5,000 or under, mischief $5,000 or under and breach of probation related to separate incidents.

Nigh was sentenced on Thursday.
