Public sector executives earn six-figure incomes

The highest earning private sector employee is in Prince George is Northern Health, president and chief executive officer Catherine Ulrich who earned $300,000 in base salary plus $31,208 in pension and $13,184 in other compensation for a total of $344,392. That's up from $302,904 for the same position in 2008-09.

UNBC's vice-provost for medicine, Dave Snadden, was the second top earner with $306,781 in salary, $28,622 in pension and $8,672 in other compensation, for a total of $344,075. That's up from $316,909 in total for 2008-09.

A close third was Dr. David Butcher, the vice president of medicine, who earned $272,487 in salary, $22,705 in pension and $18,103 in other compensation totalling $313,295. In 2008-09, he earned a total of $301,263.

UNBC president George Iwama, who took over the position three months into last fiscal year, was paid $249,692 in salary, $17,760 in pension and $9,903 in other compensation. Iwama's salary also included an unspecified engagement payment.

UNBC's vice president of administration and finance, Eileen Bray, earned $170,566 in salary, $16,149 in pension and $11,877 in other compensation for $198,602 in total.

Last year, she took in a total of $189,205.

College of New Caledonia president John Bowman earned $163,360 in base salary and $17,813 in other compensation for $192,273 in total for the 2009-10 fiscal year.

His base salary last year was $165,257.

For the 2009-10 school year, School District 57 superintendent Brian Pepper earned $147,241 in salary plus $19,596 in pension and $13,511 in other compensation adding up to $180,347. Pepper took in a total of $176,904 last year.

School district secretary-treasurer Brian Mix earned $131,568 in salary, $11,039 in pension and $14,545 in other compensation for a total of $157,152 in 2009-10, compared to $154,366 in total in 2008-09.

Assistant superintendent Bruce Ballantyne earned $128,355 in salary, $16,682 in pension and $12,479 in other compensation for $157,115 in 2009-10. His predecessor, Robert Little, received $125,838 in salary, $16,585 in pension and $14,827 in other compensation in 2008-09.
