A member of the public and police dog ‘Kash’ are being thanked by Prince George RCMP for offering to help in pursuit of a suspect leading to their arrest.

Davin Gray Jokinen was taken into custody early Sunday morning (Jan. 26) on several counts related to trespassing and breaking-and-entering after being reported for suspicious activity in College Heights.

The 28-year-old was first seen leaving a driveway on Dalhousie Drive around 1:35 a.m. when police were first notified, then was located matching a description provided by the caller.

He was then seen breaking into a vehicle near McGill Crescent and Simon Fraser Drive and fled from the scene on foot as an officer tried to approach him, eventually running down an embankment and across Highway 16.

At this time, a public member was driving down Peden Hill when he saw Jokinen running away and offered the officer in pursuit to take them to the bottom for a better chance at nabbing the suspect.

Prince George RCMP’s police dog ‘Kash’ found the suspect hiding under a trailer on Hollandia Drive after the Service team was called to help with Jokinen’s arrest, who had gone through brush, hopped over fences and even went onto the roof of a commercial storage facility.

He also resist arrest despite a police dog and several officers on scene, and was found in possession

Jokinen has been charged with the following offences:

  • Fail to comply with probation (Three counts)
  • Resist arrest (Two counts)
  • Trespass at night
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Fail to comply with conditions of release

According to a Prince George RCMP release, Jokinen is well-known to police in three different communities, including Quesnel and Dawson Creek and is ‘relatively new’ to the city.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday (Jan. 29).
