A second public hearing will be held for the proposal to build a year-round ski resort outside of Valemount.
Fraser-Fort George Regional District directors gave the go-ahead last week to hold a hearing for a zoning bylaw drafted specifically for Valemount Glacier Destinations.
A specific date has not yet been set but it will likely be held in mid-to-late July, development services manager Terry McEachen said.
A public hearing on amending the Robson Valley-Canoe Upstream official community plan was held in April. Other than concern about the possible impact of the project on caribou in the area, no opposition was raised at that time, according to a staff report.
The OCP amendment continues to sit at third reading while FFGRD waits for the provincial government's approval of a master plan for the project.
"There's no sense in adopting it without the master plan being approved," McEachen said.
VGD is being regarded as a much-needed economic boost to the community of 955 people located 285 kilometres east of Prince George.
The project calls for a a 2,000-bed resort next to the world's longest in-bounds ski run and the continent's largest vertical drop with the additional draw of being North America's only summer skiing destination.
It's backed by Oberti Resort Design who are also behind the stalled, but similar year-round Jumbo Glacier ski resort near Invermere. Plans for the resort date back to 2011 after a proposal for a $100 million Canoe Mountain resort featuring a hotel and golf course fell apart.
