Local businesses can showcase their healthy workplace initiatives, as well, and the deadline for that is May 23.

Issues connected to bullying and violence in the workplace have been in the headlines lately. According to a survey released at the end of April, 40 per cent of employees have been bullied. Men make up two-thirds of bullies and 57 per cent of the time the target is women.

Selected employers will be invited to showcase how they create a safe, psychologically healthy workplace at the Psychologically Healthy Workplaces Conference in Vancouver June 26 and 27. There will be regional locations for the conference for satellite communication including at UNBC.

Examples of successful workplace initiatives include using policies to improve work-life balance

for employees, programs for employee growth and development, employee recognition programs, delivery of stress reduction programs and promotion of health and wellness.

The conference brings together key people who play a role in establishing and maintaining psychologically healthy workplaces.
