The provincial government announced $2 million in spending Thursday aimed at connecting more rural residents with high-speed Internet via satellite technology.

The B.C. Broadband Satellite Initiative targets people living in areas where traditional high-speed Internet services aren't currently available. That can include some rural areas around Prince George as well as places like Dunster, Hixon, Penny and Upper Fraser. The program, run in partnership with Xplornet Communications, provides residents who can't receive wireless or landline broadband Internet with a grant of up to $250 to help cover up to 50 per cent of the installation costs of a satellite system.
