The mandate of the RCMP's Crime Reduction Team is to dog the trail of prolific Prince George offenders. The team was claiming another success Wednesday when they arrested Shane Arthur Wilson, 32, three days after he was released from prison.
Wilson was set free from Prince George Regional Correction Centre on Feb. 28 but under court-ordered conditions. A warrant was soon issued for his arrest after new allegations were made by the Prince George RCMP's Drug Section accusing him of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Breach of Recognizance.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass said the Crime Reduction Team took it upon themselves to look for Wilson, whom police considered highly violent.
"They knew there was a warrant out of him and they knew he had been a really bad guy in the past, and they located him in short order," said Douglass.
"The Crime Reduction Team is more focused towards property crimes - break-and-enters, auto theft, things of that nature - but always prolific offenders. Although he didn't fit the perfect definition because he wasn't usually associated with property crime, he certainly qualified for the Crime Reduction Team's attention in this case because of his repeat history of criminal activity, and we think it worked."
He was taken back into custody and awaits a court appearance scheduled for Friday.
