A man on Prince George's prolific offender list is back in police custody after a botched break and enter on Saturday.

Eric Joseph Heidemann, 25, faces ten counts ranging from break and enter, pointing a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon and resisting arrest.

Prince George RCMP were called to a crime in progress at an empty home on Brock Drive, at around 3 p.m. Saturday.

Shouting "police," a dog handler approached the window and came face-to-face with the suspect's pointed handgun. With the help of the dog service team, and one particular canine - Azar - police nabbed the man as he tried to flee the home.

He was treated at the UNBC hospital for bite wounds and remains in custody.

Heidemann, who has an extensive criminal record, is on an order to stay out of Prince George stemming from a February 2012 incident including weapons and unlawful confinement charges.

In December 2013, Heidemann was sentenced to a nine months in jail for his role in the theft of a pickup truck from Prince George, an attempted theft of a skid steer and trailer in Quesnel and a subsequent attempt to flee police.

Heidemann is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

The RCMP ask that anyone with information about persons illegally using or in possession of firearms, to call (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips".
