The Prince George Air Improvement Roundtable (PGAIR) is offering area residents up to $650 in rebates to replace older, inefficient wood-burning appliances.

Residents of Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George are eligible to take part in PGAIR's 2021 Woodstove Exchange Program. To be eligible for the rebate, residents must replace an older, smokey wood-burning appliance with an EPA-certified, clean-burning wood stove, insert, pellet or gas appliance.

In addition to the rebate, residents who require a Solid Fuel Burning Appliance Permit through the regional district are eligible to have their permit fees waived.

"Residential wood burning is a significant source of fine particulate matter in B.C., including Prince George," a PGAIR press release said. "Aimed at improving community air quality and achieving reductions in particulate matter, this program helps create awareness about the health impacts of wood smoke by providing education on clean burning techniques through workshops, pamphlets, websites, and social media."

The program is a partnership of PGAIR, the provincial government, BC Lung Association and local governments.
