Two critical resources to the Prince George community are benefitting by the money raised from the 2019 International Women's Day Breakfast.

The seventh annual event was spearheaded by Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond and co-sponsored by the Ramada Prince George.

Two societies chosen to receive last year's proceeds are the Prince George chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the PG Parkinson's Support Group, who will share $1,983.60.

“Every year, we hold an International Women’s Day breakfast to recognize some of the inspirational women who live and contribute in our community and beyond,” said Bond.

“It is wonderful to be able to provide these donations on behalf of everyone who attended last year’s breakfast and because of our continued partnership with the Ramada.”

St. Vincent de Paul offers need to families including food hampers, daily meals and a friendly, safe drop-in centre, in addition to running a thrift store in downtown Prince George.

“I was honoured to take part in last year’s International Women’s Day breakfast, which was a wonderful opportunity to engage with the truly inspirational women in our community,” added Bernie Goold, President of St. Vincent de Paul.

“I would like extend my sincere thanks to Shirley Bond and the Ramada Hotel for the donation to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. These funds will go a long way to contribute to our work and improve the lives of so many here in our local community.”

The PG Parkinson's Support Group is a volunteer orientated support group that helps those with the disease, their families and friends to meet in an understanding and friendly environment on a regular basis.

“Last year’s breakfast was such a fantastic event and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to be involved,” stated Dr. Jacqueline Pettersen.

“Events like the International Women’s Day breakfast are so vital in building and supporting the community and the fact that proceeds from the event are going to support local charities make it all the more meaningful. Thank you to Shirley Bond and the Ramada Plaza Prince George for both the donation being made today to the PG Parkinson’s Support Group, and for their continued commitment to our community.”

The 2020 event is scheduled for Mar. 10 at the Ramada Plaza Prince George. Doors will open at 7 a.m. with breakfast served at 7:30.

Tickets go on sale today (Feb. 7) and are $30 each and you can purchase your tickets through Laura in the Ramada Sales Office. She can be reached at 250-561-5685.
