Nove Voce has been named best overall choir at the 2019 provincials competition, which took place May 29 in Chilliwack.

How the choir’s journey to winning started back in February when they sang in Prince George at Our Saviours Lutheran Church.

Recordings of that performance went on to the provincial festival where it was adjudicated against 30 other choirs from around the province.

That night, they sang Chromatic Fugue by John Burge and Tabula Rasa by Don MacDonald and Allison Girvan.

Next, the recording will go to Saskatoon to represent B.C. in the National Festival.

This is Nove Voce’s second time winning B.C.’s Best Overall Choir and fifth time representing BC at the National festival; last year, they ranked second Nationally.

Nove Voce will also be one of two Canadian choirs competing in the “Olympics” of choir, which is the fourth European Choir Games taking place in Gothenburg Sweden.

The choir will be showcasing what the material they’ll be competing in Sweden for Prince George audiences before they cross the Atlantic.

They will be performing at Our Saviours Lutheran Church on June 22 at 7:30 p.m. for the Sweden or Bust exhibition concert.

Admission is by donation with all proceeds going toward member travel for Sweden.

Also, if you’d like to support the choir, they are Garage Sale June 8 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church (3590 Dufferin Ave).
