Northern Hardware and Furniture will be no longer.

The company has confirmed to PrinceGeorgeMatters they will be closing in the new year, after celebrating their 100 year anniversary this past summer.

Northern Hardware was founded in 1919 when Alex Moffat and Frank Witmore bought out the Northern Lumber Company on George Street.

In 1940 the store then moved to its current location on Third Ave. The store was operated by the Moffat family including former Prince George Mayor Harold Moffat who was mayor from 1969 to 1979.

Prince George children have also been enjoying rides on Champion the horse at Northern Hardware since the 1950s. The price to ride the horse remained at 10 cents throughout the years.

This March the store’s president Kelly Green celebrated 100 years of Northern Hardware and Furniture Co. operating in the community.

PrinceGeorgeMatters has reached out to Northern Hardware for further comment.
