Every summer, roughly June or July sans 2020, residents flock to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park to celebrate and acknowledge local diversity.
As a result of COVID-19, however, the Immigration and Multicultural Services Society of Prince George (IMSS) is set to host an online version of its Day of Cultures Festival, but hopes to bring the same spirit as there would be in a normal year.
The public is invited to join the free virtual event on Friday (Feb. 19) set to be audience engaging for all ages, according to the organization.
“It is comprised of a series of family-friendly community virtual events geared towards celebrating culture, weaving them together home entertainment broadcast in the social media to create a virtual festival that promotes cultural understanding, social, and community pride on a safe mode during the pandemic situation.”
The goal for the festival each year, IMSS says, is to highlight multiculturalism and anti-racism.
Day of Cultures 2021 is set to feature an interfaith webinar, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by food cooking demonstrations, a traditional dress fashion show, arts and crafts, and a seniors’ dance all after 6 p.m.
