Prince George’s 2021 Coldsnap finalizes lineup for upcoming free online music festival

Coldsnap’s Coldstream event is only days away
Coldsnap 2020
A performance at Coldsnap's 2020 festival.

Coldsnap’s livestream festival is right around the corner and despite fans having to watch the popular Prince George music festival from the comfort of their own homes this year, the upcoming week is nevertheless jam-packed with musical events.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage through the north and across B.C., organizers decided to move the show to the digital world and will livestream the concerts for free between Jan. 29 and Feb. 6, 2021.

The organizing team has now finalized the full festival lineup which includes a variety of music and workshops.

Rounding out our festival filled with incredible musicians is Barney Bentall, The Drifter & The Preacher himself! Barney’s expertly crafted music, as well as the extraordinary music of Juno-nominated Marcel Gagnon, is sure to make Feb. 2 “Not Just Another Groundhog Day”.

In addition, Prince George’s own The Ebbs will be joining the amazing Pierre Schryer and Adam Dobres for a Fiery Fiddlin' Friday on Feb. 5.

Participants can also attend two live zoom workshops scheduled for the week. On Feb. 1 at 12 p.m., with Rachelle Van Zanten for an “Intro to Slide Guitar!”. Van Zanten will present tips and tricks for getting started with “that thing on your finger” and how to tune your guitar.

On Feb. 2 at 12 p.m. the festival will feature a songwriting workshop with B.C. musician Sarah Jane Scouten called “The Traditional Music of British Columbia.”

Scouten will be joined by folk singer/ethnographer Jeremy Pahl (Saltwater Hank) as they invite you to explore the unexpected history of traditional music of British Columbia. They will be looking at Indigenous music as well as settler's music, examining their intersections, impacts and shared history.

This workshop is part of Sarah Jane Scouten's Song Craft Workshop Series, offered twice a month online from her home in southwest Scotland.

Both these workshops are no charge to participate, but advance registration is required in order for participants to receive the Zoom link to the workshop. Links will be sent out two days prior to the workshop date.

“The festival is only a few days away and we cannot wait to bring music to our community in this new, exciting, and safe way through the livestream format,” says Coldnsap organizers.

“We are incredibly thankful to be able to offer the best of BC at with no cover charge thanks to our wonderful sponsors and funders. Safety remains our top priority, and we continue to follow all Provincial Health Orders and updates, and change our plans as needed to be as safe as possible.”
