The YMCA of Northern B.C. is hoping to raise $10,000 at this year’s Boogie with the Stars dance competition.
The funds will be put toward the Strong Kids Campaign, which helps families receive financial assistance for their children to participate in YMCA camps, programs, and also helps with subsidized memberships.
The YMCA Strong Kids Team has already been sponsored by ReMax’s Tab Baker, who has contributed $2,500 toward the goal.
“We are so grateful to be a part of this event and for the support, we have already received,” says YMCA manager of philanthropy Stephanie Deol in a press release. “We are especially thankful for Tab’s sponsorship and ongoing support of the services we offer to kids in our community.”
The YMCA Strong Kids star dancer is Prince George Family Y Centre manager, Shannon Johnson.
Boogie with the Stars is a New Year’s Eve dinner and dance. It's also a fundraiser for a variety of local charities and is hosted by the Brink Group of Companies.
The competition segment of the evening is based on the TV show Dancing with the Stars. A cast of local Prince George notables team up with local dance instructors and perform for the crowd.
The event will be held Dec. 31 at the Prince George Civic Centre. Tickets are $100 each and include dinner. Tickets are available for purchase at the YMCA, at 2020 Massey Drive. Those who would just like to support the initiative financially can donate online.
