Prince George woman charged with First Degree Murder for courthouse stabbing

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2020 homicide of Jessie Mae Hayward-Lines.

On Friday, Sept. 10 Prince George RCMP arrested a 56-year-old Prince George resident in connection with the homicide investigation from July 2020.

Investigators from the Prince George RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit arrested Charlene Jane Alexander for the murder of Hayward-Lines.

The B.C. Prosecution Service approved one count of First Degree Murder. Alexander will remain in custody until her next court appearance.

“This file has remained a priority for our investigators, who have worked tirelessly to get the investigation to this point. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Jessie Mae HaywardLines, who have endured immense grief this past year,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

At about 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 the Prince George RCMP received a report of a stabbing that occurred on the 300 block of George Street, in front of the courthouse.

Frontline police found the 26-year-old Jessie Mae Hayward-Lines suffering from a stab wound. She as transported to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
