Who doesn't love a good apple?

As they say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but they can also attract, sometimes, unwanted guests.

Northern Lights Estates Winery has been recognized by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service with a plaque for their efforts to raise awareness of cleaning up fruits that attract bears.

"It is an honour to be recognised for the program and are hopeful that this raises awareness for the critical issue of cleaning up Bear attractants in the areas we live," co-owner and operator of Northern Lights Estate Winery Doug Bell tells PrinceGeorgeMatters.

The Prince George-based winery works on the program with the Northern Bear Awareness Society to help educate the public on the issues and what to do to ensure fruit doesn't attract bears.

Funds raised from the program go to signage as well as awareness and programs by the society.

"The winery believes that wildlife conflicts are almost 100% avoidable if everyone does their part," Bell says. "Our hope is that this program is only one small step to more solutions."

Residents can start bringing their apples to the winery during the last week of August.

"We would like to thank everyone involved in the program and invite people to start bringing their apples into the winery in the last week of August," Bell adds.

So if you prefer to enjoy your applies in the liquid form (for adults), you can donate your apples to the winery!
