BC Highway Patrol recently stopped a vehicle in Prince George with extensive modifications and is now issuing a warning to the public.
BC Highway Patrol notes that with warmer weather car enthusiasts take their antique vehicles, collector vehicles and modified specialty vehicles out of hibernation and onto the streets and highways to be enjoyed not only by their owners, but adults and children alike.
However, these vehicles must still comply with the BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations (MVAR) .
On May 31, BC Highway Patrol in Prince George stopped a motorist in the area of Ruggles Street, who was operating a vehicle with extensive modifications.
“Upon performing a roadside inspection, it was noted the vehicle did not comply with the MVAR and did not meet the parameters of an exemption under the MVAR,” said Cpl. Serge Bruneau of BCHP – Prince George.
The driver was issued a violation ticket and issued an inspection order for the vehicle in question, which was registered as a 1931 Ford.
The BC Highway Patrol added that if drivers believe their vehicle falls under an exemption, they must ensure they are familiar with the requirements of that exemption.
The organization says that some modifications to a vehicle increase the risk of altering or negating safety mechanisms, operation or overall handling of a vehicle.
This may lead to an increased risk to the occupants, other motorists, pedestrians or cyclists on the roads.
